Public Health Dentistry

Public Health Dentistry is the part of dentistry providing leadership and expertise in the population based dentistry and focuses on preventing and controlling oral diseases and promoting optimum oral health through organized community efforts. This specialty deals with regular dental check-up and treatment camps in rural and urban areas, adoption of various schools and villages for oral health promotion, and health educational programs. Students are trained to deliver oral health care, diagnosis and prevention of oral diseases through the organization of oral health camps. The Department is engaged in conducting health education sessions, exploring oral health status of the community and providing community based interventions for the prevention of dental diseases. The basic aim of the Department is the enhancement of the general and oral health of population through assessment of dental health needs and improving dental health of populations rather than individuals.

The department boasts of a full-fledged dental health education museum, where OPD patients are educated on regular basis and various dental models, charts and audiovisual aids is presently being utilized for health education and motivation. The department is conducting outreach programs regularly for the underserved communities. The department also runs a satellite centre at village Bhood baral, Partapur, Meerut where all basic dental treatments are provided.
