Prosthodontics is the branch of dentistry which deals with replacement of missing or lost natural teeth and surrounding tissues by artificial substitutes. The aim of Prosthodontics is to restore oral function, comfort and health of the patient with an esthetically pleasing end result. The subjects also deal with the replacement through surgical means by placement of implants into the bone to provide support for the artificial teeth. Apart from the teeth, the replacement of missing or deficient surrounding parts like palate, cheeks, nose, eyes, ears etc also comes under the purview of Prosthodontics.
The training program is structured to achieve excellence in not only clinical and laboratory procedures, but also in the development of attitude and communicative skills of the students. The undergraduate training begins from first year BDS onwards and continues till the final year. The students learn the basic preclinical Prosthodontic work and manipulation of dental materials. Students are trained to fabricate removable and fixed, complete and partial dentures. The teaching program for post graduate is as prescribed by CCS University and Dental council of India.. Training is given in complete denture, removable partial denture, fixed Prosthodontics, maxillofacial prosthetics. Implant dentistry, esthetic dentistry and TMJ and occlusion related cases.
